Knights of Columbus – Council 3900
Serving St. Michael’s Parish and Beyond
The Knights of Columbus Council 3900 is a brotherhood of Catholic men dedicated to charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism. Our council serves St. Michael’s and the greater community through acts of service, spiritual support, and faithful leadership.
What We Do
Parish Support & Fellowship
- Host Friday Fish Frys during Lent (excluding Good Friday), bringing the parish together for food and fellowship
- Take part in Fifth Sunday Masses, with members and their families serving as lectors, greeters, and Eucharistic ministers
- Provide meals and support for various parish events and faith formation programs
Faith Formation & Youth Support
- Provide scholarships to parish students who meet eligibility requirements
- Assist the Faith Formation program with supplies and recently funded three mobile smart TVs for classroom use
- Offer ongoing encouragement and resources to help young Catholics grow in their faith
Respect for Life & Community Outreach
- Advocate for the sanctity of life by supporting local pregnancy clinics, including assistance with ultrasound machines and staff training
- Installed and maintain a pro-life sign with lighting visible after dusk
- Support Special Olympics athletes through annual Tootsie Roll Drives
Global and Diocesan Impact
- Raised funds in 2025 to help Fr. Clement Owusu build a new church in his home country of Ghana
- Provide financial and spiritual support for seminarians in the Diocese of Des Moines
- Enlist Fourth Degree Honor Guards to honor fellow Knights and clergy at wakes, funerals, and diocesan events

Charity is the foremost principle of the Knights of Columbus. To that end the Knights will support projects /programs based on the following objectives, projects with a local influence in the local Harlan and Shelby county area will be given special attention.
Funding will be awarded based on these few criteria:
L. Programs designed to help today's youth become tomorrow's leaders. Projects that help move our young people towards a sense of civic and religious responsibility.
2. Programs that service the local community. school programs, the elderly, town
celebrations etc.
3. Programs designed to heighten the awareness of Christian values. Helping the less fortunate, during natural disasters, safeguarding the environment.
4. Programs which will help enrich the Catholic faith. Projects that grow the Catholic church, support religious outreach, promote vocations including seminarians. The Knights of Columbus meet on the 3td Tuesday of the month to discuss funding programs.
Application instructions And Deadlines
1. Applications must be received before the 3'd Tuesday of the month to be considered by
the Knights of Columbus Council # 3900 that month.
2. Applications should be submitted on standard paper to keep for our records.
3. lf possible applicants should present project in person to council.
You will be contacted if additional information is needed and notified of its status as soon as
possible after the council meets.
